Compliance Crunch: New Rules Are Here

From the EU’s ICS2 customs system to looming sustainability demands and parcel reform, cross-border rules are tightening.

  • Starting in September 2025, all goods entering the EU (including by road and rail) must be declared digitally in advance under the Import Control System 2 (ICS2). This means more paperwork up front, but faster customs processing if done right.
  • From 1 October 2026, all vaping products sold in the UK will need a Vaping Duty Stamp and be subject to a new flat-rate excise duty. This applies to both nicotine and non-nicotine liquids, including imports – you can find out more here.
  • Carbon rules (CBAM) are changing sourcing decisions, fast.

Sustainability frameworks like Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) are pushing companies to rethink sourcing and logistics emissions. Across the Atlantic, the fallout from de minimis abuse in the US is leading to stricter rules on direct-to-consumer imports, especially from eCommerce sellers.

Tip: Build customs checks into your pre-shipment process. It saves you time, fines, and unhappy customers.
