At NG Terminal, we see sustainability not as a future goal but as a current responsibility. As global trade continues to evolve, so must the infrastructure and services that support it. That’s why we’ve made strategic investments into carbon tracking, sustainable last‑mile logistics, and digital integration across customs and warehousing operations.
From our bonded warehouse near Heathrow Airport to our MyNGT digital platform, we are building logistics solutions that reduce carbon emissions, improve efficiency, and ensure compliance with fast-changing international regulations.
Low‑Carbon Logistics is No Longer Optional
The logistics industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact — not only from governments and regulators but also from customers and end‑consumers. Last‑mile delivery, in particular, is a major contributor to emissions, accounting for a disproportionate share of carbon output in cross‑border e‑commerce.
NGT’s response has been to embed sustainability into our operational model, investing in the following areas:
- Carbon Tracking: Our systems measure CO₂ output across delivery routes, warehouse handling, and transport legs, allowing clients to monitor and reduce their carbon footprint.
- Optimised Routing: Through digital tools and AI-assisted logistics, we reduce wasted mileage, idle time, and route duplication — minimising emissions and costs.
- Electric & Hybrid Fleets: Where available, we use electric vehicles for inner-city and short‑haul deliveries, particularly for e‑commerce and small- parcel volumes.
- Integrated Sustainability Reporting: Clients using the MyNGT platform can request carbon-impact reports alongside customs declarations and warehouse handling logs, providing a transparent audit trail.
Whether it’s a palletised B2B delivery or an e-commerce parcel cleared through our ETSF, we offer a cleaner, more accountable alternative to traditional last‑mile networks.
Preparing for 2026: The End of the €150 E-Commerce Duty Exemption
Sustainability isn’t the only reason shippers need to re‑evaluate their last‑mile strategies. On 13 November 2025, the European Commission announced that the €150 duty exemption for imported e‑commerce parcels will be removed as of 2026. This marks a major shift in how online imports into the EU will be taxed and cleared.
“The Commission welcomes the political agreement… ensuring all e-commerce goods are treated equally at import, regardless of value.”
– European Commission, Taxation and Customs Union (source)
For shippers and platforms, this means:
- All commercial consignments will be subject to duty and import VAT, regardless of value.
- Customs declarations must be complete, accurate and traceable, including for low-value orders.
- Transparency, carbon-efficiency, and compliance will become core value propositions — not marketing add-ons.
NGT: Combining Green Tech and Customs Expertise
At NGT, we’re not just a bonded warehouse or a customs agent — we’re a full‑spectrum trade infrastructure provider. Our strength lies in integrating multiple layers of logistics:
- Bonded storage that allows deferred duty and VAT payment
- Customs clearance with full digital visibility
- Low-emission last-mile delivery supported by smart carbon tools
- Platform integration through MyNGT, including pre-lodgement, invoicing, and carbon reporting
We work with e-commerce sellers, freight forwarders, and wholesalers to ensure their supply chains remain both profitable and sustainable, even as regulatory burdens increase.
This positions us to support clients as the €150 threshold is phased out — ensuring that declarations, environmental impact, and delivery timelines are optimised from day one.
The Road Ahead
Environmental compliance and customs modernisation are no longer two separate concerns. In fact, they are rapidly converging. As new rules reshape international e-commerce, businesses will need to demonstrate carbon awareness, operational transparency, and regulatory readiness in a single integrated solution.
NGT is committed to leading this transition. From Heathrow to the EU, from bonded stock to the end customer, we are powering greener miles for smarter trade.
