As of October 1, 2023, the global container fleet has grown to a staggeringĀ 6,711 vessels, an increase of 15 ships since September. The total container capacity now stands at an impressive 27,869,059 TEU,Ā marking anĀ increase of 123,807 TEU. The cumulative deadweight tonnage of operating vessels has reached a whoppingĀ 332,335,662 DWT.
šĀ Top 20 Shipping Companies Rankings
In the fiercely competitive world of shipping, thereās been an ongoing battle for rankings. One notable highlight is the rivalry betweenĀ Ocean Network Express (ONE)Ā andĀ Evergreen Line. After ONE was overtaken by Evergreen Line in September, theyāve reclaimed their position, securing the 6th spot, while Evergreen Line is now ranked 7th.

When it comes to capacity growth,Ā Mediterranean Shipping CompanyĀ continues to lead the way, with a capacity increase from 5,302,014 TEU to 5,365,638 TEU, adding 63,624 TEU to its fleet.Ā Hapag-LloydĀ has boosted its total capacity from 1,888,780 TEU to 1,930,577 TEU, whileĀ COSCO GroupĀ increased its operating capacity from 2,977,173 TEU to 2,991,248 TEU.
On the flip side,Ā Maerskās total capacity decreased from 4,152,144 TEU to 4,125,573 TEU, a reduction of 26,571 TEU.Ā CMA CGM GroupĀ saw a decrease from 3,507,102 TEU to 3,487,949 TEU, with 19,153 TEU less, andĀ Zimās capacity decreased from 576,314 TEU to 568,728 TEU, with 7,586 TEU less.
Other companies likeĀ Sea Lead Shipping,Ā Sinokor Merchant Marine, andĀ Wan Hai LinesĀ also experienced reductions in their total capacity.

Notably, the largest growth in orderbook capacity comes fromĀ CMA CGM GroupĀ andĀ KMTC.Ā CMA CGM GroupĀ increased its orderbook capacity by an impressive 73,600 TEU, growing from 1,205,138 TEU to 1,278,738 TEU, with the number of ordered vessels rising from 115 to 123. Meanwhile,Ā KMTCās orderbook capacity expanded from 16,400 TEU to 17,400 TEU, with the number of ordered vessels increasing from 2 to 3.
